Cyber Security Management wins a €20 million tender from the Belgian federal government

Sovereignty is a prerequisite for sensitive sectors and public bodies. In a tense geopolitical context, Belgium is putting this concept in the spotlight.

“A huge service project won by a Belgian SME and its European partner! The federal government is setting an example,” comments Peter Braem, CEO, Cyber Security Management. Beyond a technological issue, cybersecurity has become a strategic, economic, and geopolitical challenge.”

Contract value: €20 million. A very impressive reference for the Braine-L’Alleud-based service provider. “A sign of confidence,” adds Peter Braem. Certainly. Cyber Security Management already has several references in the Belgian public sector—at the federal level, but also in administrations and even essential services such as hospitals.

ISO 27011 certified and with various national and European public clearances, Cyber Security Management has always favored European solutions.

Periods of disruption

“Cybersecurity has always been a major challenge for public decision-makers,” continues Peter Braem. They are now forced to devise and propose institutional, operational, and technological responses to maintain the bond of trust between their administrations and public sector users… and to guarantee national sovereignty. “

Today more than ever. In times of disruption, such as wars or health crises, attempts to destabilize and influence public opinion are now also carried out in cyberspace. Cyber is a weapon of choice available to states for political purposes.

Digital shield

Beyond this observation, the idea that cyber attackers target private groups more than public bodies is no longer true. The healthcare sector, which had previously been relatively spared, has seen a sharp increase in cyber attacks over the past five years. This is particularly true in Belgium.

“Our administrations are increasingly being targeted,” continues Peter Braem. At the end of March 2025, several official Belgian websites, including MyGov.be and the Walloon Parliament website, were the target of a cyberattack claimed by a pro-Russian hacker collective. The incident rendered certain portals inaccessible… “

Also, at the end of May, in response to the resurgence of cyberattacks, Federal Minister Vanessa Matz allocated a budget of €55 million to ensure that every federal administration, regardless of size, has a solid digital shield.

The sovereign spirit of the solutions that will be implemented was a natural choice. In a tense geopolitical climate, combining cybersecurity and sovereignty is a prerequisite for ensuring your strategic autonomy on a global scale, according to Peter Braem. “The world is changing! Dependence on non-European cybersecurity solutions is becoming a risk factor. It is becoming urgent to take control of our digital destiny.”
