Worldline executes its first online Wero payment with Red Cross Flanders

Red Cross Flanders is the first organization to offer the pan-European payment method in Belgium, which is the second European country after Germany to allow e-commerce payments.

Joachim Goyvaerts, General Manager of Worldline Belgium, was the first to officially use Wero for an online transaction, the 100% European digital payment method via Worldline in Belgium, when he made a donation to the Red Cross Flanders.

Numerous merchants have already indicated that they want to activate Wero as an e-commerce payment solution on their platforms.

The Red Cross Flanders is the first organization to integrate and offer the pan-European payment solution via Worldline.

“Our humanitarian work in Flanders, Belgium, and the rest of the world is only possible thanks to the people who support us. Our goal is to help people as quickly and efficiently as possible, so fast and reliable systems are important to us,” said Vincent Verbeecke, Manager Public Relations & Public Affairs, Red Cross Flanders.

Wero, implementations planned for the rest of this year

Wero? The system is based on direct account-to-account (A2A) payments and simplifies payments in Europe by eliminating intermediaries from the payment chain and the associated costs. Wero already supports payments between individuals and will soon also enable payments to professionals (P2Pro).

Wero has been operational for P2P payments in Belgium, France, and Germany since 2024 and currently has 50 million users. For e-commerce payments, Wero has been operational in Germany since the end of 2025, with a gradual rollout in France and Belgium during 2026.

Major migrations of at least 15 million consumers are also planned for Payconiq in Luxembourg (by 2026) and iDEAL in the Netherlands (by 2027). In 2026, point-of-sale payments will also be offered, as well as value-added services such as loyalty programs for merchants and the management of recurring payments and subscriptions.

Confirmation and coordination

“Our priority is to facilitate the activation of new payment methods and make them reliable on a large scale,” continues Joachim Goyvaerts.

With Wero for e-commerce, Worldline is strengthening its digital payment offering and enabling merchants to provide their European customers with a smooth payment experience, without additional configuration or other extra operational efforts.

“Merchants can easily implement Wero while continuing their normal daily activities, with immediate confirmation of the success of their payments and simplified reconciliation.”
