Creation of a pan-European fiber optic corridor secured with quantum cryptography

Strategic partnership announced during MWC Barcelona 2026 Distribution of quantum keys between Amsterdam, London, and Brussels to protect financial data against emerging quantum threats. A strategic partnership between Colt and Eurofiber.

Interoperator initiative for the distribution of quantum keys (QKD), designed to provide quantum-secure connectivity between the financial districts of Amsterdam, London, and Brussels. The result is a new standard for pan-European digital resilience.

Eurofiber and Colt, who are already partners, are using their open digital infrastructure to create a shared secure quantum fiber optic corridor. This will enable banks, trading platforms, and financial infrastructure providers to protect their critical data from future quantum attacks, while maintaining low latency and high performance.

The initiative is in line with both companies’ interest in quantum-secure networks and their recent investments in quantum-secure infrastructures. It is an important step towards secure and sustainable pan-European communications for the financial sector.

Colt’s strength in ultra-low latency and Eurofiber’s dense and robust fiber optic network

“At Eurofiber, we are convinced that the future of secure connectivity depends on in-depth strategic partnerships,” said Phaedra Kortekaas, Managing Director Netherlands, Eurofiber. Our collaboration with Colt clearly illustrates how combining expertise and vision can lead to sustainable solutions that the market urgently needs. Together, we are building a resilient infrastructure secured by quantum cryptography that will enable our customers to shape the digital future securely.”

Colt and Eurofiber are driven by a shared vision, explains Peter Coppens, Vice President Infrastructure & Connectivity Solutions at Colt Technology Services. “The expansion of our collaboration stems from our shared belief that the future of connectivity must be extremely secure, reliable, and powerful. Eurofiber’s open digital infrastructure and progressive approach provide the ideal foundation for our joint mission to rapidly deploy networks secured with quantum cryptography.”

By combining Colt’s strength in ultra-low latency and carrier-grade services with Eurofiber’s dense and robust fiber optic network, both partners are paving the way for rapid adoption of quantum key distribution for next-generation resilient infrastructures. “Together, we are enabling the financial sector to enter the quantum era with confidence, with secure and resilient connectivity designed to meet not only today’s demands, but also those of tomorrow.”

Quantum key distribution offers a new form of security through encryption

QKD uses a quantum technology-based data encryption key that is resistant to interception attempts. QKD protects valuable data from potential future attacks using quantum computers and plays a crucial role in protecting critical infrastructures, particularly in the financial sector.

This technology, Colt and Eurofiber emphasize once again, makes it possible to establish quantum-encrypted, scalable, and cost-efficient fiber optic connections, allowing the many companies between Brussels, Amsterdam, and London to be connected to each other via the most secure infrastructure available.
